Anxiety-friendly
Sedation dentistry in Irving, TX
If the dentist makes you anxious, you’re in good company. We’ll go at your pace, explain everything first, and review sedation options that fit your health history.
- You set the pace and the stop signal
- TVs in our treatment rooms
- Sedation reviewed with your health history

Dental anxiety is common, and it’s not a character flaw
Plenty of adults put off the dentist because of fear: a painful visit years ago, a strong gag reflex, the sound of the drill, needles, or embarrassment about how long it’s been. Sedation dentistry and simple comfort measures exist for exactly these reasons, and our Irving team uses both every week.
You don’t have to explain or justify how you feel. Tell us when you book, or just tell us when you sit down. We’ll start with a conversation, chair upright and no tools in sight, and build a plan from there. Nobody here will lecture you about the last time you saw a dentist. Avoiding care usually lets small problems grow, so the hardest step is often the first call.
Signs you might need sedation dentistry
- You’ve put off dental care because of fear
- You have a strong gag reflex
- Numbing hasn’t worked well for you before
- You need a longer procedure, like wisdom teeth or implants
- Sitting still for a long time is hard for you
- Past dental visits were painful or upsetting
Comfort options that don’t involve sedation
Many nervous patients find that a few simple changes make a bigger difference than they expected:
- Thorough numbing. We numb thoroughly, give it time to work and test before we start. If you feel anything sharp, we stop.
- A stop signal. Raise your hand and we pause, every time, no questions asked.
- Breaks. Need to sit up, rinse or catch your breath? Ask anytime.
- Something else to focus on. Our treatment rooms have TVs, and you’re welcome to bring headphones and your own music or podcast.
- No surprises. We explain each step before it happens.
- Quieter equipment. Our A-dec chairs have an electric handpiece and a built-in piezo scaler that are quieter and smoother than many people expect.
- Shorter visits. We can split treatment into smaller appointments if long ones feel overwhelming.
Sedation dentistry options, matched to your health history
For some people, comfort measures aren’t enough, especially for longer procedures like extractions and wisdom teeth or dental implants, or for patients with severe anxiety or a strong gag reflex. Kudo Care Dental offers sedation options, including sedated exams for people who can’t get through a regular checkup otherwise.
Which option is right depends on you: your medical conditions, the medications you take, your age, your past experiences with anesthesia and the treatment you’re having. Options differ in how relaxed they make you, how long the effects last and whether you’ll need someone to drive you home. We’ll review your health history with you, explain which options are appropriate and what preparing for each involves, and give you written instructions well before treatment day.
Good to know: Sedation helps you relax; it doesn’t replace numbing. Even with sedation, we numb the area being treated so you stay comfortable.
When your health history is complex
Heart conditions, sleep apnea, diabetes, pregnancy, lung problems and some medications all affect which sedation options are safe, and sometimes whether sedation is a good idea at all. Please tell us about everything you take, including supplements and anything you use occasionally.
Kudo Care Center has primary care providers in the same building as our dental office. With your permission, we can coordinate with them, or with your own physician, before planning sedation. That might mean confirming a medication, checking that a condition is well controlled, or simply making sure everyone is on the same page. If sedation isn’t the safest choice for you, we’ll say so and focus on other ways to keep you comfortable.
Ways to make your first visit easier
- Ask to start with a consultation only: no treatment, just a conversation and a look around.
- Book the time of day when you feel calmest. We’re open seven days, including Sunday mornings.
- Bring a friend or family member for support.
- Ask for explanations in Spanish or Vietnamese, or in Korean with Dr. Chloe Kim, if that helps you feel at ease.
- Tell us your triggers, whether it’s the sound, the smell, needles or gagging, so we can plan around them.
If it’s been a long time, a gentle cleaning and exam is a good place to start. Our new patients page explains what to expect, and you can meet our dentists and hygienist on the team page.
What to expect, step by step
- Tell us how you feel
When you book or arrive, let us know you’re anxious and what bothers you most.
- Talk first
With your chair upright, we review your health history and medications and explain what your visit would involve.
- Choose your comfort plan
Together we pick comfort measures and, if appropriate, a sedation option, with written instructions for the day.
- Treatment at your pace
We check in often, take breaks when you need them and stop whenever you raise your hand.
- Recovery and next steps
If you had sedation, you rest until you’re ready to leave with your companion, and you know exactly who to call with questions.
Cost, insurance & financing
The cost of sedation depends on which option is appropriate for you and how long your treatment takes. Dental insurance often doesn’t cover sedation for anxiety alone, though some plans help with it for certain procedures, such as removing impacted wisdom teeth. We check your benefits and include any sedation on your written estimate before treatment. Financing through Cherry, Affirm or CareCredit can spread out larger treatment plans, subject to approval. Can I be sedated for a dental cleaning?
Sometimes. We offer sedated exams for patients whose anxiety makes a regular checkup impossible, and whether that’s appropriate depends on your health history and how much needs to be done. Many patients find that comfort measures, like breaks, a stop signal, a TV to watch and a gentle hygienist, are enough for a cleaning. We’ll talk it through and decide together.
Will I be awake during sedation dentistry?
It depends on the option that’s appropriate for you. With many dental sedation options, you stay awake and can respond to us, but you feel deeply relaxed, and some people remember little of the visit afterward. Before treatment day, we’ll explain exactly what to expect from the option we recommend, so nothing about the experience catches you off guard.
Is dental sedation safe?
For most healthy adults, dental sedation has a strong safety record when it’s properly planned and monitored. Safety starts before the appointment, with a careful review of your medical conditions, medications and past experiences with anesthesia. That’s why we ask detailed questions and, when your history is complex, coordinate with your physician or our medical team down the hall, with your permission.
Do I need someone to drive me home after sedation?
For some sedation options, yes. You won’t be safe to drive for the rest of the day, and you may need an adult to stay with you for a few hours. For lighter options, you may be able to drive yourself. We’ll tell you clearly in advance which applies to you, so you can arrange a ride and plan your day.
What if numbing doesn’t work well for me?
Some people do need more anesthetic or more time, and inflamed or infected teeth can be harder to numb. Tell us if numbing hasn’t worked well in the past. We’ll allow extra time, test the area before starting and adjust our technique. If you feel anything sharp during treatment, raise your hand and we’ll stop and numb more.
Can I get sedation dentistry in Irving for wisdom teeth or implants?
Yes, when it’s appropriate for your health. Wisdom tooth removal, several extractions at once and implant placement are among the most common reasons people ask about sedation. We plan the sedation alongside the procedure, so preparation, timing and recovery are mapped out together. We’re open seven days, so the consultation can fit your schedule, and patients come from Irving, Coppell, Euless and beyond.
